Courtyard Gate

This week I started forging a gate to cover the opening to this courtyard. What you see here is a temporary screen keeping the cats in the court yard.

After I make a scaled hand design I use this vintage opaque projector to enlarge the design to full scale.

Then after drawing the full scale gate framework on the floor I transfer the design from the enlarged drawling.

This gate has hinges on both sides but the larger opening on the left will be the gate used most of the time.

Currently I’ve cut out the entire framework and textured both sides but it still needs to be welded together.

The leaves will be large on this gate to fill the open spaces where the cats will try to get through.

Between Gates

It’s been a while since I made an entry in the blog. Here is some of what I’ve been up to in the studio for the last 5 months.

Forged Letter Openers.

I participated in Hillsboro’s first Open Studio Tour and demonstrated some leaf forging for a garden screen I was making at that time.

Here’s the completed garden screen waiting for some plants to grow all over it.

I forged more stainless steel bracelets. This is a new design that I forged for my neighbor Sven.

This week I started a new commission for a courtyard gate so come back soon to view my latest adventure.
